We need to format the drive to install Windows or start using it when installing additional drives. You can format the drive to erase all data on it quickly. You can also shrink the existing drive and format the remaining free space to create a second drive on your computer. Do you have a backup?
Insert the Windows installation disc. Formatting the PC will remove all data on it and delete the operating system. Ensure you have backed up any important files to another location, such as an external drive or the cloud. You will use the Windows installation disc to format the drive. That is the simplest way to format the primary purpose because you cannot do this from Windows. You don’t need to use your installation disc because you won’t enter the product key (unless you reinstall Windows). If you cannot find the installation disc, depending on your version of Windows, you may still have options:
Windows 7-You can enter your product key here to download an ISO file for Windows 7. You will then use the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool available for download here to transfer this ISO file to a blank DVD or USB drive. Windows 8-You can download the Windows 8 media creation tool from Microsoft here. The program will download and create Windows installation media on a new DVD or USB approach (8GB or bigger). Operate the device and follow the prompts to complete the installation media.
Windows 10-You can download the Windows 10 media creation tool from Microsoft here. Run this program to download and create a Windows 10 installation disk on a clean DVD or USB impulse. Startup settings and boot
To reach the installer and format the drive, you need to set the processor to boot from USB instead of the hard drive. This process depends on whether your laptop came with Windows 7 (or earlier) or whether your computer came with Windows 8 (or later).
Windows 7 (and earlier)-Restart the computer and press the BIOS, SETUP, or BOOT key displayed when the computer was first started. The most commonly used keys are F2, F11, F12, and Del. Set the installation drive as the primary boot device in the BOOT menu. Windows 8 (and newer)-Click the “Power” button on the “Start” screen or menu.
Hold down ⇧ Shift and click Restart to restart to enter the “Advanced Startup” menu. Select the “Troubleshoot” option, and then select “Advanced options.” Select “UEFI Firmware Settings” and later open the BOOT menu. Set the installation drive as the primary boot device. Windows will load the installation file and start the installation process. Before proceeding, you will be asked to choose a language and accept the terms.
Format Windows process
Choose “Custom” to install. This will allow you to format the hard drive during the installation process. Select the partition you want to format. After completing the initial installation screen, you will see all hard drives and their divisions.
There will usually be multiple partitions on your computer, one for the operating system, one for the recovery partition, and any other partitions you may create or drives you may own. You can remove partitions on the same approach and merge them all into one unallocated partition.
How To Format A Computer With Windows 10
To reset the hard drive through the Windows 10 installation, you need to use the Windows 10 base floppy or USB flash drive to start or boot the computer. Turn on the computer, allow Windows to create, insert the Windows 10 installation disc or USB flash drive, and then shut down the computer.
If you don’t own a Windows 10 base USB or CD, you can download and create one from here. At these Install Windows pages, enter your language and other preferences, and click Next. Touch any key when indicated, and then follow the instructions that appear. Restart your computer.
